HBM News: 12/20/15-12/26/15

Yet another week with not much news. Yes, Christmas did happen, but we didn't get any huge explosions of video game/anime related news. But I'm still here to tell you about it anyway.

HBM News: 12/13/15-12/19/15

So, there was a decent amount of news this week. We got the final Smash Bros direct, which is kinda bittersweet, and a bit more news otherwise. Let's get on with it.

Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS Final Presentation: 12/15/15

So, the final news update for Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS went up today, and while we may not have gotten as much news as we were anticipating, we did get quite a bit of hype from what was announced. I'll go over everything in order of what was shown.

HBM News: 12/6/15-12/12/15

So, this was a week with... not much news. Though, we do at least some stuff to look forward to for the next week. Anyway, let's get on with this.

Also, that announcement Nintendo teased last week? It was just Minecraft for Wii U... fucking stupid.

HBM News: 11/29/15-12/5/15

Another week, another batch of news. We got a pretty decent chunk of news this week, and the Game Awards were held... though they were a bust. Anyway, onto this week's news.

HBM News: 11/22/15-11/28/15

Well, after two weeks with a good amount of news, we didn't get much news this week. So this will be a short post.

Batman Arkham Knight: The November DLC has been released, including short stories for Catwoman and Robin, some alternate costumes, and extra challenges. We also got info on the January DLC, which will include challenge maps based on areas from Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight, which is cool.

Bleach: Brave Souls: We finally, after 4 fucking years, get another Bleach game... and it's for fucking smartphones, a.k.a. the thing that ISN'T A GODDAMN GAME SYSTEM, YOU FUCKING RETARDS. It's a free-to-play hack'n'slash, coming worldwide "soon." The trailer shows that just a few of the playable characters include Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, Hitsugaya, and Grimmjow. Maybe if this gets ported to an ACTUAL GAME SYSTEM (most likely 3DS), I'll play it, but since I have brain cells, I'm not supporting this smartphone-only nonsense.

And that's it for the past week's news. Hopefully there'll be more this week.

HBM News: 11/15/15-11/21/15

It's time for the news of the week... a little later than usual because I was too tired to work on the post last night. Anyway, we actually got a decent amount of news this week. So, yeah, onto the news.

HBM News: 11/8/15-11/14/15

Well, for once, we have quite a bit of news this week! There was a Nintendo Direct, and it was a pretty good one. Though, like always, I'm only going over the stuff that interested me personally. Anyway, onto this week's news.

Spoilers for some of the games covered here.

So, there was a Nintendo Direct today, and they saved their Smash reveal for last, and it was a fucking bombshell. Cloud Strife, from Final Fantasy VII, is coming to Smash!

He has his classic design, of course, and seems to be a powerful character, like Ike and Ganondorf. He has his Limit Breaks, and can seemingly power them up, as well as his Advent Children costume. His Limit Break is Omnislash, which acts basically like Ike's Great Aether, like you'd expect. His stage is Midgar, from FFVII, and various summons, such as Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Bahamut, and Knights of the Round, attack the stage as a hazard. There will even be a Chocobo Mii Costume. Overall, THIS IS HYPE AS FUCK BOI

Also, a new Smash Direct will be airing next month. Presumably, they'll release Cloud and his stage the same day. As for the rest of the Direct news, youll have to wait for my News post this week.

HBM News: 11/1/15 - 11/7/15

Once again, its time for news, and once again, there's very little news this week. So this is gonna be a short post again.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven: We finally got more part 5 characters confirmed. Bruno Bucciarati and Diavolo have finally been confirmed to be returning, along with Trish Una and Vinegar Doppio being made playable. Doppio's kind of a... weird choice, considering that spoiler about him, but I actually was expecting Trish to be made playable. Hopefully we'll get a couple more characters for this game.

Street Fighter V: People have datamined the beta to find out who the remaining character is: It's a new villain named Fan. He's apparently M Bison's second in command, and... very effeminate. The dataminers have also found out who the first wave of DLC characters will be: Guile and Balrog from Street Fighter II, Alex, Ibuki, and Urien from SF3, and Juri from SF4.  All very cool.

So, that's the news of this week. There really needs to be a spike in video game news soon,

HBM News: 10/25/15-10/31/15

Happy Halloween... though it's technically a little while after Halloween, but WHATEVER, GET SPOOKY! Anyway, time for more news yet again. Once more, there's little news this week, but, uh... let's get on with it. In the non-sexual way.

HBM News: 10/18/15-10/24/15

It's time once again for the news. Once again, we don't have too much news this week, but hey, what're you gonna do? Anyway, time for the news.

HBM Reviews: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

"This is going to be quite the epic battle, my old nemesis."
In 2013, after over a decade, we got a new Dragon Ball Z movie, Battle of Gods. The movie took place between the final battle with Kid Buu and Goku's fight with Uub at the World Tournament, and dealt with the God of Destruction, Beerus, seeking a fight with a Super Saiyan God. He fought all the Z Fighters, and eventually, Goku reached this new form. Though Goku lost, Beerus didn't destroy the Earth, and made friends with Goku and the gang.

Now, Battle of Gods was a good movie, but it was a bit too comedic for some fans' tastes. Basically, there wasn't nearly enough action, so some people felt a little upset with the final product. Those people can now rejoice, as the newest movie, Resurrection F, has the action they wanted so bad.

HBM News: 10/11/15-10/17/15

Another week, another batch of news. Like the past few weeks, we haven't gotten much news, but hey, makes my job here easier. Let's get to it, shall we?

HBM News: 10/4/15-10/10/15

Well, there was a bit more news this week than last week, so that's cool. Anyway, let's get to it.

HBM News: 9/27/15-10/3/15

It's time for another news update! Just like last week, there's not much to talk about this week, but I actually have been playing a few games I'm going to talk about here! Anyway, here's the news for this week.

Super Smash Bros DLC Update: 9/30/15

So, the new Smash Bros update came out today, and we got some DLC with it! I'm gonna be going over the DLC right here.

So, we all knew we were getting the Super Mario Maker stage on the Wii U and 3DS versions, but we also got Pirate Ship, returning from Brawl... as a Wii U exclusive, because the 3DS version doesn't have the swimming mechanic. As compensation, the Wii U's Duck Hunt stage was included in the 3DS's update for free, so that's alright.

The one thing that's annoying about the new stages, at least on the Wii U version is that most of their music is recycled from other stages. All of Pirate Ship's music is on the other Zelda stages, and all but 4 of the Mario Maker tracks are on the other Mario stages. The only new Mario Maker tracks are the original Mario 1 theme, the original Mario World theme, the Mario Maker main theme, and a track that changes to suit the style of the stage (for example, when it's Mario 1 style it's the Mario 1 theme, when it's Mario 3 style it's the Mario 3 theme, etc.). Considering how much other great songs from Mario and Zelda games that aren't already in Smash, this is pretty stupid, but what're ya gonna do?

Of course, we also got a set of Mii costumes. There's a Business Suit for all Mii types, a Fox hat and suit for Gunners, a Toad hat and suit for Brawlers, a Captain Falcon suit for Brawlers (includes the helmet if you haven't unlocked it yet), a Viridi (from Kid Icarus Uprising) wig and suit for Swordfighters, and from Monster Hunter, a Hunter helmet and armor for Swordfighters, and the Rathalos helmet and armor for Swordfighters. These are some pretty cool outfits, but we always get good Mii outfits with the DLC.

Overall, this update was sparse, but serviceable. 2 stages on each platform, and 7 Mii costumes isn't bad. Like I said, the only annoying thing is the recycling of music, but that's a minor thing. Thankfully, this is all fairly cheap, about $9 for one platform, about $14 for both.

HBM News: 9/20/15-9/26/15

Once again, it's time for more news. Unfortunately, this week was kinda slow when it comes to video game stuff, so there's not much for me to cover here. There will be weeks like this with little news, and we're just going to have to deal with it. Anyway, onto the news.

HBM's Top Ten GBA Games

It's finally time for me to do another Top Ten! Since I'e already done DS games, here I'm doing Game Boy Advance games. Like always, I'm only covering games that aren't remakes/re-releases, and it's just my opinion. Plus, I haven't played every GBA game out there, so surely, some great games won't be on the last. Anyway, let's get on with it.

HBM News: 9/13/15-9/19/15

Well, another week has passed, so it's time for me to cover recent video game news. However, unlike last week, I'm not talking about games I've recently been playing, because the only ones I have been playing have been covered in previous posts. So if I'm playing a game covered in a previous post, that's exempt from being featured in these posts. Anyway, onto the news.

HBM Reviews: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

"Kaz... I'm already a demon."
The Metal Gear series has been going strong for nearly 30 years. The original games on the MSX2 and NES were moderate hits, but the series didn't really take off until Metal Gear Solid on the PS1. Ever since then, the series has been major hit after major hit, but ever since Metal Gear Solid 3 or so, the man behind it all, Hideo Kojima, has been wanting to retire from the series and work on other things. This year, he got his wish, when Konami broke off relations with Kojima Productions, taking the rights to the Metal Gear series with them. And that's when Konami went full asshole.

As soon as this was announced, Konami began removing Kojima's name from all the MGSV promotional material, including the box art. When people complained, they apologized and put Kojima's name back on the game... only to remove it again a month later, permanently. So be sure to remember that the Metal Gear series, up to this point, was created by Hideo Kojima, an absolutely amazing man.

Anyway, Metal Gear Solid V is the most recent entry into this amazing series. The prologue, Ground Zeroes, was released last year, and while it had the great gameplay of this main portion, it was so short and had so little content that people were greatly upset. However, considering how much bigger this game is compared to Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain has to be much better, and more pleasing to the fans, right? Well, let's find out.

As usual, I'll be assuming you're familiar with the games I'm reviewing, and the ones that came before. This is your only warning: there are spoilers in this review for Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes, and Phantom Pain. Of course, I won't let that stop you from reading on.

HBM News: 9/5/15-9/12/15

Now that I'm back, I want to update more frequently, and what better way than to sum up news that has interested me this week? This will be news that pertains to video games, anime, movies, whatever I care about. Also, if I've started playing a game that I don't think I'll review (or a re-release of some kind), I'll cover my thoughts on it in these posts. Anyway, onto this week's news!

Back in the mid-late 2000s, there was a very popular fan-made series on Newgrounds called Super Mario Bros Z. It was a Mario/Sonic crossover with Dragon Ball Z style battles and plot. It started off fairly decent, but by episodes 3 and 4, the animation and battles were absolutely amazing. The creator, AlvinEarthworm, even had plans to do 3 seasons, with 15 episodes each, and even a movie-length episode or 2, However, the longer the episodes became, the longer it took him to make them, and the longer it took him to make episodes, the more impatient the fans became. Eventually, because of a combination of these circumstances and a monotonous day job, AlvinEarthworm canceled the series in 2012.

However, now he's unemployed, and ready and willing to reboot the series from the ground up! In fact. he's even posted a new anime-style intro!

Just from this intro, it looks like AlvinEarthworm has only gotten better at spriting and animating. He's said that he hopes to clean up some of the dialogue and battle scenes, as well as shortening/removing tedious and boring parts of the story. As a huge fan of this series, I'm hyped as all hell. I'll be posting about each episode of the reboot as it comes out, and Alvin has said he hopes to have Episode 1 out soon, so hopefully I'll be posting about it soon. To satiate your appetite for this series, you can always watch the original 9 episodes on AlvinEarthworm's Newgrounds page, or various people have posted them on Youtube.

HBM's Impressions: Games I've Gotten Since My Last Review

Hello, everyone. I know I haven't posted since E3, but now, I'm starting my 2nd year of college, so I'm gonna have a bit more extra time on my hands, and because of that I'm back! I will be blogging more frequently from now on, and as a bonus, once a week, I'll do a post on general video game/anime/whatever news (though not this week, because still lazy)!

Now, onto the topic at hand, I haven't reviewed a game since Super Smash Bros for Wii U, and that last handful of reviews, I got lazy and did as little as possible. But now, I'll be doing more detail on my reviews, and you'll notice that when I get back to reviewing stuff (taking a break for the time being).

But anyway, I've gotten 22 games since that last review, and I'm going to be summing up my thoughts on those games in a paragraph, each. Not all of these games are from this year, but some of them are. Anyway, here we go!

E3 2015: My Thoughts

So, E3 was this week. It happens every year in June, and I'm here to document the stuff that interested me.

But first, let's talk about the conferences. Personally, I only watched 3: Sony's, Nintendo's, and Square-Enix's. And that's actually pretty much the order of good to bad with those conferences. Sony knocked it out of the park with their presentation, Nintendo's was pretty solid, and Square's... they couldn't get to the shit people actually care about soon enough. Bleugh.

But, with that said, here's the stuff that interested me at E3 2015.

I'm done. My life is complete.

Full E3 post going up tomorrow, updating throughout the week.

Super Smash Bros New Content Approaching - 6/14/15

Yeah, it's been a while since I posted. I'm finally back, and I'm going to be working on my E3 post throughout the week. But for now, we're going over the Super Smash Bros Presentation (Nintendo Direct Mini, kinda) that was released yesterday, detailing the DLC that was released today.

Now, most of this was leaked the day prior, so most of it wasn't a surprise, however, there were stille some shocking things revealed.

Smash Bros Rumor: Roy and Ryu as Future DLC?

So, the new patch for Smash Bros went live yesterday, to allow us to use DLC. Some people have found out how to datamine the 3DS version, and went through the files after the patch. There were some new music files added, but four in particular stood out: Victory themes for Lucas (who was confirmed to be DLC back in the Nintendo Direct), Roy from Fire Emblem, and Ryu from Street Fighter, as well as a stage them for Ryu, which is clearly his theme song from Street Fighter II.

Now, these songs are all recycled from previous games (Lucas's and Roy's from Brawl and Wii U/3DS, and both of Ryu's from Street Fighter II), meaning they could be placeholders until official remixes are made. However, some have speculated that these files could have been planted in anticipation of datamining, in hopes of seeing the internet's collective reaction, since it's a tactic that has been used by other gaming companies.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Roy return if he's made more unique, and Ryu would definitely be a welcome addition to any fighting game. Just don't go asking Kyle Hebert (Ryu's voice actor) on his Twitter about this, because even if he has been called in for Smash, there's non-disclosure agreements in place to prevent him from saying anything too soon.

Anyway, that's my thoughts on that. Time to abandon the blog until I feel like posting again.

Nintendo Direct: 4/1/15

Yes, seriously. Not an April Fools' joke.

So, Nintendo finally did another Nintendo Direct. And this one is probably best one ever since E3 2014. The hype was real during this Direct. Anyway, onto what was shown. Like usual, just the stuff I care about.

Smash Bros Rumor: Rayman as DLC Character?

So, we've known for a while that Mewtwo is coming to Smash Wii U and 3DS as a DLC Character sometime this Spring. Due to this, there has been some speculation as to other DLC characters. Recently, however, a possible leak has happened, with pictures of Rayman as a character being put online.

There was also a picture showing a shop icon being added to the main menu on the Wii U version. As you can see, it also shows Mewtwo right above Rayman. Both of these models are supposedly nowhere else on the internet, leading further credibility to this leak. Also, video proof of this leak was posted, showing the Character Select screen choosing Rayman.

So, how do I feel about this? Well, I've never played a Rayman game before, so I don't know what to expect, and I don't care much, but hey, maybe I'll pick it up due to Smash (like I did with Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Metal Gear, Earthbound, and Star Fox). But, more characters is always a plus, so I'd say it's more positive than anything.

HBM, signing out.

EDIT: It's fake.

Schedule Update

Okay, considering how absolutely shitty my posting schedule has been the past 6 or 7 months, I'm just going to tell you this: From now on, do not expect anything other than game reviews whenever a game I'm looking forward to comes out. I will still be posting, just in a more sporadic pattern. I'm thinking maybe in a few months, I can maybe start vlogging to sort breathe new life back into the blog, but that's in the hypothetical future. For now, just don't expect anything big.

HBM's Top Ten Games of 2015 I'm Most Excited For

Well, it's been 2015 for 20 days now, and there are quite a few games scheduled to come out this year. Here are the 10 I'm most excited for.

Nintendo Direct 1/14/15

Well, there was a Nintendo Direct today, and... it was disappointing. It didn't say a whole lot we didn't already know, due to a leak yesterday, and otherwise, there was very little of interest. However, I will go over the stuff that I paid attention to, in order.

HBM's Top Ten Games of 2014

Hello, people. Sorry it's been a while since I posted. I haven't been too motivated to do this lately, especially considering all the games I've gotten in the past couple months. However, 2014 is over, and it was a great year for games, I'd say. So here's my top ten of the games from 2014!

Also, since I'm not including re-releases or remakes, I'm giving honorable mentions to Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMix, The Last of Us Remastered, Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. They're all excellent games, but all re-released/remade so... yeah...
