Yes, seriously. Not an April Fools' joke.
So, Nintendo finally did another Nintendo Direct. And this one is probably best one ever since E3 2014. The hype was real during this Direct. Anyway, onto what was shown. Like usual, just the stuff I care about.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS DLC: The Direct started off strong by cutting to the chase, and giving us what we all wanted: the Mewtwo trailer. His moveset looks to be similar to how it was back in Melee, but they probably tweaked it so he isn't shit. And his Final Smash is, of course, Mega Evolution. He's coming April 29th (15th for those of us who registered both games on Club Nintendo).
But that's not all the Smash news there is. The same day Club Nintendo users get Mewtwo, a new patch will be put up, along with a DLC Mii Outfit pack, with the outfits being a Smash T-Shirt, a Monkey Suit, a Cat Suit, a Link Suit, Majora's Mask, Dunban's outfit and wig (from Xenoblade), Protoman's outfit, and Mega Man X's armor.
And finally, in a surprise reveal, Lucas (from Mother 3) is returning as a DLC character in June! Not only that, but you can now vote on the Smash Bros website for who you'd like to see be made into a DLC fighter! And finally, a new wave of Smash Bros aMiibo is coming in May. So... quite a bit of Smash news here, huh?
aMiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Hits (Wii U): A free app coming to Wii U, by tapping your aMiibo to the Wii U Gamepad, you can play brief scenes from various Virtual Console games, randomly chosen depending on the aMiibo. Seems legit. Coming this Spring.
Mario Maker (Wii U): We're shown a level basically commemorating the 30th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros on NES. After that, we're given an overview of the things that were already shown for the game. Coming this September.
Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U): The new thing shown this Direct for Yoshi was basically being able to choose between a regular, classic-style gameplay mode, and a casual, easy-mode for newbies. Also, aMiibos are being made for this game in the form of plushies. ...Alrighty then. Coming this Fall.
Splatoon (Wii U): We were shown 2 new modes: Ranked Battle (where your performance is ranked and you play with others of similar ranks) and Battle Dojo (a local 1v1 mode that's basically a training mode). Also, there's Splatoon aMiibos coming out, and using them in the game gives you exclusive missions which you can unlock exclusive gear with. Coming May 29.
N64 and DS on Virtual Console: We're finally getting N64 games and DS games on the Wii U Virtual Console. These were announced some time ago, but now it's finally a reality. DS games have a variety of screen layouts depending on the game and how you feel like playing. N64 games will be $10-12, and DS games will be $7-10. Yoshi's Island DS and Super Mario 64 are available right now, with future titles including Yoshi: Touch 'n' Go, WarioWare: Touched, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart DS, and Paper Mario.
New Fire Emblem (3DS): So, you can make an Avatar again, only this time he/she is the main character, not sharing the role. The story this time has 2 warring nation, one peaceful and one violent, and your character has ties to both of the nations. So you have to decide which path to take, and which one you choose will change the course of the game. Seems legit. Coming 2016.
Mario Kart 8 DLC (Wii U): The 2nd pack of Mario Kart DLC is coming soon! For the details, check this post. Anyway, it's coming April 23rd, rather than May as we were told, so that's cool. Also, the same day, a patch is going up introducing aMiibo functionality for 9 more aMiibos, and a new 200cc race speed, faster than ever. Pretty cool.
So, like I said, this is the best Nintendo Direct since the E3 one. Hopefully Nintendo will be more punctual with the Directs, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is for E3 2015.
HBM, signing out!
